Meet the Team

Gavin Smith

Our Managing Director, Gavin Smith, founded Caledonia Competence in 2015. Gavin has amassed over 25 years of experience in the world of Competence Assurance and Training, the majority of that leading various Competence & Training functions.

Gavin graduated from Aberdeen’s Robert Gordon University with a B.A. Degree in Law and Management followed by a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resources Management. Gavin is currently the Vice-Chair of the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) Competence & Training Committee. As a qualified Competence Assessor and Internal Verifier, Gavin leads the delivery of these courses for our many clients.

Danielle Hunter

Danielle Hunter is the companies Competence and Systems Coordinator. Danielle has a wealth of experience in training and competence, HR logistics, and contractor management, along with a diverse skill set to support our clients effectively.

Danielle is the Focal Point for our clients who use our ATTAIN Competence Portal in addition to being responsible for the co-ordination of our ROV Proof of Competence Scheme.

Marek Durkacz

Marek Durkacz is the Competence Assessor at Caledonia Competence. Marek has over 35 Years in the ROV industry with various companies including the last 17 years with Subsea 7. Marek has been a Competence Assessor since 2008 and a Competence Verifier since 2010 and has assessed many ROV Personnel since then. Marek is Caledonia Competence’s lead Assessor for our ROV Proof of Competence (POC) Scheme and spends much of his time holding Professional Discussion Video Calls with our POC Candidates.
